How many businesses FAILED because their good ideas can’t get out there? ⛔
Are you creating a new business from scratch? 📢 So promotion is important, right?
Like magic? Then what, just go and get a PR to put you in TED talks?
I had to do more than this, just like you. And also, when is it the right moment?
There never is a right time or a wrong time. I mean the worst time is if you have got nothing to promote, if you're literally just at an idea stage and you haven't got anything coming out, that's probably not the best time to get a PR consultant. But when you're in the flow of business, I think the best time will be subjective to different businesses. And for me, it has to be at a point where they've got something they can co-talk to people about. So you've got assets, videos, presentation materials or some sort of landing page that you can send to journalists. Journalists have got a very short attention span, because they've got so much going on and so many people request their time. So if you're gonna reach out to journalists to write about you and your projects, you don’t want to waste their time because that might be the only time you get, and the only chance you get to work with them.
So if I have to give some advice:
👁️🗨️ The best time will be subjective to different businesses
🕐 There never is a right time or a wrong time if you have something to tell
✅ The best moment is when you are in the business flow, make sure you have something to show and that's the right moment
Last week I shared a FAQ on my new project, and here goes another one;
How did you manage to be featured on national news?
It should come naturally now, right?
Yes and No. Only if you play it right, so what I think:
So being featured by, in the big news, I think a few different ways. Number one is, Journalists reaching out to me after hearing my story and wanting me to talk about a topic that they're researching or writing. So this afternoon, for example, I'm doing a project where I'm being captured by HSBC, they're looking for 25 black entrepreneurs that are gonna do something interesting in the next year. And they've highlighted me as one of the people that they would like to highlight. So there's that, and that's super cool and super fun. And then the other way I've kind of featured in big news in what I've got products or projects I'm releasing, like the supermarket a couple of years ago or my food festival, my team put a budget together for a PR consultant to promote the project. Often times rather than the journalist wanting to make an advert for your event or your big documentary, they often want to do an interview with a founder and they get a chance to interview me about my story, but also what's happening that weekend for their audience members to go and watch. So could we say that it's by grabbing attention to all your products and promoting your projects? Yes and no! Partnering with your sponsors and, other companies around your side projects is more than just partnering. It's partnering with PR consultants and agencies. That's been the biggest thing, like when you have a press release to share news about a project release, I have found that people want to hear about why you started it, how it's going and what's going on. Because they can and they can tell their audience the best thing possible.
