I propose three key elements:
🙌🏾 confidence
📊 data points of validation
👥 right people working around
= momentum
I think there are a few layers to it. Layer one, Is confidence. If you have it - you are going to take a risk, and you're going to go for something; if you don't have confidence, you'll stop halfway. So try to find things that give you confidence, might be data points, people, or momentum.
By data points, I mean you might say to yourself, right, I'm going to work on selling X, Y, Z. And if you can read the research that shows you what is happening. You can gain confidence from this.
Data points will give you options - Maybe I go to this market, or maybe I captured a wave in this other adjacent market.
Layer two is questions/research
Often I want to be early to opportunities, as do so many others. Questions that are worth asking yourself
- are you well-read on insights on what your target audience is doing? What's changing in the market? Is there anything you've read or that you understand that is signalling and confirms the choice you're making is the right one. And then, you use data points in confidence.
The third layer is people.
If I've got great people working around me who are passionate about the project and who are bringing alternative skills to the project, that could give me the confidence to go and sell something.
That can give the team confidence to go and, and know that what we're building is going to be the thing that's going to take us to the next level.
So for me right now, when I get a chance to work with top talent who are really exciting, it always excites me. It always excites me as I know that.
It's not just me working for myself. I also know that others can contribute to the dream with passion.
The thing that kills a business. And the thing that makes a business is cash flow and sales. So as soon as you can, actively work on making sales; this is something that changes the game, not just for you but for so many people.
The sooner you can get your product sold and get some cash in, that'll give you the confidence that there are people that you've been prospecting who could also convert. It allows you to tell stories of how you've transformed their lives. Give them more confidence, make them happier, or whatever your product gives people.
And that's something you can then build on and find other people similar to them who want that product or other similar organisations. They want that product.
